Shopaholic Ties the Knot by Sophie Kinsella
I got this book as a present from Rondy on my 21th birthday ^_^ he knows that I love reading about Rebecca Bloomwood so he gave me this one as a present. It was a SURPRISE for me! When I got the package I had no idea that he'd give me this book. When I opened it, ........it was Shopaholic! I got it even before Gramedia printed the translation! When Maudy was reading it in her class and a girl spotted it she asked, "That's Shopaholic volume two, right?" "No, it's volume 3." "There are volume 3?!" Yes, and it's mine hahaha!
So the story is still about Becky Bloomwood who loves shopping but for the very first time she doesn't have any problems with her ridiculous debts anymore, a problem solved without any credit cards hehehe and this time she gets to marry Luke Brandon. He does a romantic proposal to her and that is very sweet. The story tells about how she wants to have a wedding party in Essex while at the same time her future mum in law wants their marriage to be held at The Plaza. She has to lie to her mum and never ends up getting caught. The story, as always, ends beautifully. One thing that makes me laugh about this girl is that she has the same craziness when it comes to shopping and we girls experience that kind of craziness too. She, understands ;)
Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier
I bought this book from QB to find out later that months after I bought it, they lowered the price huh! I fell for the Vermeer's paintings. It's a fiction story about a maid named Griet who works for Jan Vermeer, has a clash with his wife and daughter and who later poses as a model for his painting. Overall, the story is not 'that good' but the words Chevalier used to write this novel are beautifully arranged. A jewel of a novel? Perhaps. But not for the story. Although I don't like the story much, I have no regrets in buying this book. If I had regreted it, I would have given it to someone. I don't have a place in the shelves for books that I dislike.
Falling Leaves by Adeline Yen Mah
I used to like stories about imigrant chinese who migrate to countries outside mainland, how they struggle, work hard and finally live a prosperous life there. This one is the first of many books about chinese immigrants that I bought and it's a good book although some parts are told as if it was not a true story but HK drama series. That's what I felt while reading it. The story is touching, especially the part when she wrote a letter asking to move to the states. Born as the 5th daughter, her family treated her as a bad luck but she struggled to prove that although she didn't get the love from her family, she still could live her life and became a succesful doctor. It's really good. And to know that it's an autobiograhpy makes it more interesting. So far, this is the best one I've ever read. What I don't understand is that in her life, her siblings hate her and that's a bit hard for me to accept. But it's a true story anyway, and everyone leads a different life. It's good to know that she's happy with her life now after so much suffering she had in the past.
